What's Going On?
My birthday is coming up and my hair is just tooooo long! I'll be chopping it off up to my neck and donating to Locks for Love, but here's the fun part... I'm raffling off the rights to decide what I do with the rest of it!
How Do I Enter the Raffle?
Every dollar you donate to my campaign will be an entry into the raffle. My goal is to reach $3,000, and if we reach it, then on October 23rd I will hold the raffle and the winner will decide what I do at my hair appointment on October 24th. (I'll include any donation in the raffle up until October 22nd at 11:59 PM Pacific Time).
Where is the Money Going?
I'm raising funds for Advocates for Youth, a group who focus on advocating for Rights, Respect, and Responsibility when it comes to sex education.
With women's rights to their healthcare choices and decisions about their bodies at risk, it's ever more important to me that young people are given critical information they need to protect their health and make responsible decisions.
Advocates for Youth understands that "many young people do not perceive that they are susceptible to the risks of certain behaviors" and work on "debunking perceptions and highlighting positive behaviors among teens". They ensure young people are "learning about good communication, safety in relationships, and growth and development" with a comprehensive K-12 curriculum (https://3rs.org/3rs-curriculum/).
These topics are of particular importance to me as a woman because, like almost every other woman I know, I've been sexually harrassed and/or assaulted on the street, in social settings, and in professional situations.
I don't want another child to face those same experiences. To me, that starts with teaching the next generation early about boundaries, respecting each other, and respecting themselves. All of that and more is included in the work of Advocates for Youth.
I'm Still Confused
If you are curious to learn more, I'm happy to talk to anyone about why I chose this organiziation (besides their 4-star rating on Charity Navigator)! You can also check out their K-12 Curriculum here: https://3rs.org/3rs-curriculum/
