At Together We Can Guatemala, our mission is to support education and environmentally sustainable economic opportunities for disadvantaged Guatemalan youth. A cornerstone of our work is to support the permaculture-based programs of the Garden of Hope (GoH). Located in Jocotenango, just outside the tourist city Antigua, GoH is a key project of our Guatemalan partner, the nonprofit Asociación Juntos Podemos.
Despite its proximity to a tourist center, malnutrition is a real problem in Jocotenango, and GoH seeks to address it through nutrition and environment education. For the past five years, GoH has run the nutrition-centered Garden to Kitchen program. The program strives to be a closed circle system, where children learn how to grow organic food, care for the soil, respect the environment, harvest, cook creatively and nutritiously, fertilize the soil naturally by composting, and value native plant species.
GoH currently partners with nine local schools in and around Jocotenango, and four additional schools are on the waiting list for 2020. Each partnership is designed to meet the needs of the individual school and student population.
Please participate in running and expanding the Garden to Kitchen program by donating to this campaign!
