Hello Friends and Family!
Since moving to Boston in 2016, I have been a member of the Boston Gay Men's Chorus. It has been my privilege to sing with this group of singers and live the mission of the BGMC during our performances. It has helped me create a community and feel connected to the larger LGBTQ+ community in New England.
Being a member has been especially wonderful while experiencing long-term unemployment. While the costs of being a member are manageable when performing locally, I fear that my wish to attend the upcoming GALA Festival in Minneapolis is out of my financial reach. I don't take my request lightly but I hope all who see my request can help me be part of the BGMC legacy of performers at this prestigious event.
Any money that is donated in my name that is more than I will need to use personally will help fund another Chorus member to attend. I hope you can spare a few dollars to help me realize this dream!
[Boston Gay Men's Chorus is one of the largest choruses in the LGBTQ+ choral GALA. Since its founding in 1982 BGMC has participated and been a leader within GALA Choruses, the association of 200+ LGBTQ choral organizations in North America. GALA Festival is a quadrennial event that brings together LGBTQ+ choruses from around the world to share expertise, perform and to change the world through song. It is the world's largest music festival. In July 2020 BGMC is proud to attend Festival in Minneapolis, MN. BGMC will bring 125+ members to the Twin Cities to represent Boston and to tell our stories through our music. In 2016 BGMC's performance was standing room only. For 2020 choristers from around the world are looking to see what BGMC brings. The Chorus provides scholarship support for those members in need. It is expected that the direct costs for each member (travel, registration, etc.) are $1,500. Please support a specific singer or support the overall scholarship program so that we can create a musical experience at Festival 2020 that inspires change, builds community and celebrates difference.]
