We've helped others during times of need. Now we're asking our supporters to help us.
When the Greek island of Lesvos suffered a devastating earthquake in July 2017, we launched an emergency fundraiser that helped hundreds of locals rebuild their livelihoods. When "Mama Maria" Makroyanni of Samos island opened her seaside restaurant and began feeding thousands of refugees during the peak of a humanitarian crisis, we raised funds that allowed her to keep cooking hot meals. When fishermen Kostas Pinteris and Thanos Marmarinos lost their boats — their only source of livelihood which they had used to save thousands of drowning refugee in the Aegean Sea — we facilitated a donation that repaired their boats and returned them to sea.
Since 2010, we've provided dozens of scholarships allowing students to study abroad in Greece and connect with their heritage on a deeper level. Our recent summer volunteer programs have given dozens of young adults the opportunity to volunteer in Greece with reputable non-profit organizations doing valuable humanitarian work and responding to crises.
Our signature events such as the Gabby Awards, NIC Conference and Forty Under 40 Awards have united thousands of like-minded individuals from throughout the world at important cultural venues.
Now, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we need our supporters to help us endure these difficult times. Because of the crisis, we are unable to host our fifth Gabby Awards in May. This is normally our premier fundraising event which over the years has proven critical to our sustainability. After months of planning, we have also been forced to postpone this summer's Greek America Corps volunteer programs which would have provided dozens more young adults with transformative experiences in Greece.
We need your support. Your donation will help us endure this pandemic so that we may persevere and continue our mission to preserve, promote and perpetuate Greek culture, history and ideals.
