Vision and Goals : International Women’s Day 5k is not a one-day only event, but can become a lifelong goal, promoting physical fitness, emotional as well as social well being by creating awareness and raising funds to support women empowerment projects in Nepal. Our goals is to raise $4000 in total for the following projects:
school support kits for 90 girls at risks, scholarships for 3 main winners ( Rashila, Lumbati and Khendo), career preps for 20 young college ladies and skill training for 20 women getting out of sex-trade/trafficking and abusive situations. We have already raised $2700 through local businesses, organizations and individuls from Kathmandu, Nepal. We still need to raise $1300 through crowdrise to be able to support above projects. To know more about what local organizations in Lalitpur/Kathmandu are going to be benefited through this fund raising, plase send your queries to highergroundnepal@gmail.com.
The 5k’s vision is to empower women and girls in solidarity with the local community. All women deserve the right to live in freedom, away from violence, trafficking or any other form of exploitation. This is a Run for Freedom for women across Nepal. Our goal is to get about 1000 women and girls to participate together with 400 members of their community supporting them. Men and boys will show their love and respect to women/girls by volunteering and cheering them up as well as running/walking with them. Running is not only a great workout; it comes with many other aspects! Our 5k will promote physical fitness among women, but will additionally contribute to developing their self-esteem and self-confidence. By running together, women will inspire and support one another, while they tangibly see that they can also empower each other.
