If you've ever wanted to make the world a better place, here's your chance. In our county of Schenectady, NY, over 22,208 students are enrolled in our schools, grades K to 12. Each year, in addition to monthly service projects aimed at helping local nonprofit organizations in our community on a monthly basis, Schenectady Kiwanis Club and Foundation provides funds to our local nonprofit organizations, and scholarships to seniors to help build the future of our community's children.
Last Spring, Donovan won a Kiwanis Foundation scholarship to help him with college costs. He's the first in his family to attend college. Elizza won a scholarship, too. She reported that her scholarship would help her with her textbooks for her first year of college. Kalia, too, won a scholarship and used it towards her tuition payments. While names have been changed to honor confidences, Kiwanis Foundation has supported individual students at all of our county's high schools over the years.
Nonprofits have also benefited. Crossroads Center for Children received a Kiwanis Foundation grant, which is helping the school to purchase materials to help children with autism learn communication systems. The Boys & Girls Club received a grant to help students enjoy programs for education and career development, character development, fitness, and more. The YWCA's grant is helping them to eliminate racism and empower women and children. Kiwanis has been an annual sponsor for the Schenectady Kids Arts Festival, and also provided sponsorship and support for the Key Clubs at Schalmont, Schenectady, and Niskayuna High Schools. And those are just a few of the organizations Kiwanis Foundation is helping.
We want to be able to contribute to making futures bright for children as much as in the past, but in these difficult times of COVID-19 concerns, many of our fundraising efforts have been cut short. You can help. Every donation will help our funds for 2021 scholarships and grants just like these.
When you make your donation, we ask that you follow us on Facebook and, in the coming months, check our website. In this way, we can keep you informed when our scholarships and grants are awarded, in an effort towards transparent reporting. Thank you for your kindness and caring!
