My Story
For the past few years, I've been thinking about joining a non-profit organization as a Professional Board Member. I didn't have any specific organizations in mind at the time, but I knew I wanted to be a part of an organization that was mission driven. Late last year, I decided that I wanted to give back to the cancer community. After researching for a few days, I came across Imerman Angels, an organization that provides personalized connections that enable one-on-one support among cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers. The unique characteristic that stood out to me was that they take a holistic approach of helping the cancer community- they help not just the fighters, but also the survivors and caregivers. I decided to apply for a Professional Board member position, and was provided the opportunity to join the team this year. As a Professional Board member, my goal is to raise at least $750 this year. Thank you in advance for your help and contributions!!
What is Imerman Angels?
Through a unique matching process, Imerman Angels partners anyone, any age, any gender, anywhere and any cancer type seeking support with someone just like them – a “Mentor Angel.” A Mentor Angel is a cancer survivor or caregiver who most importantly has faced the same type of cancer.
The service is absolutely free and helps anyone touched by any type of cancer, at any cancer stage level, at any age, living anywhere in the world.
These one-on-one relationships give a cancer fighter or caregiver the chance to ask personal questions and get support from someone who has been there before. Mentor Angels can lend support and empathy and help cancer fighters and caregivers navigate the system, determine their options and create their own support systems. Frequently, caregivers experience feelings similar to those of the person facing cancer. Mentor Angels can relate while being sensitive to the experience and situation.
