Covid-19 knows no boundaries and is now expanding to Africa. Parts of West Africa were ravaged by the Ebola virus just a few short years ago and now face the onslaught of Covid-19. Although the government of Sierra Leone has used its experience with the deadly Ebola virus to prepare, the Covid-19 virus is insidious and has already invaded the country.. The country has a very limited number of testing kits (300) provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) and most of these kits are only available in urban areas. As such, the President of Sierra Leone has ordered all citizens to wear face masks as a means of staving off the virus. Marginalized rural communities will have very little means of protection other than these masks and can only hope to remain isolated from this stealthy scourge. The Magic Penny, a 501(c)3 non-profit involved in rural Sierra Leone, is raising funds to buy food, face masks from local tailors and Veronica buckets and soap for hand washing from local merchants. These are the key measures that will protect the people from acquiring and spreading the disease. Please help The Magic Penny keep the people of Sierra Leone safe from yet another dreadful encounter with a fierce and destructive virus.
