When Emily, a former KK volunteer moved back to Ireland, she asked Paula to keep tabs on her rescued bodega cats - the Brothers. They are each about 10 years old. When COVID-19 hit, the Bodega owner decided to close his shop and Paula was able to get Brother 1 out and brought him home. Brother 2 was hiding. For over 2 months Paula fed Brother 2 through a hole in the outside wall about the size of a grapefruit until she was finally able to catch him and reunited him with his brother.
About two weeks after Brother 2 arrived Paula woke up one morning to find Brother 1 collapsed on the floor, panting and drooling. She rushed him to Blue Pearl where they diagnosed him with congestive heart failure. The vet and Paula agreed he should be put to sleep because he was in bad shape and this was not something that gets better. However, after working to stabilize him he had stopped panting, was alert and bright-eyed, and was purring so loud you could hear him across the room. The vet agreed that perhaps it wasn’t his time quite yet and Paula brought him home and put him on heart meds.
The emergency vet visit cost $1,300 and Brother 1 is now in need of an electrocardiogram and to see a cardiologist recommended by our vet Dr.G ($450).
He hasn't had enough of living in a real home yet and Paula will keep loving him for as long as he's got! Please consider donating today to help Brother 1!
