We are starting this fundraiser to help further our efforts in protecting the beaver that has taken up residence in the Nine Mile Run Restoration area of Frick Park. We arranged a visit from urban beaver expert Joe Berg of BioHabitats to inform our staff, park goers and city officials on the ecological benefits of beavers, and how to co-exist with them in an urban park. With the support from donors, we hope that we will be able to ensure a bright future for our resident beaver! We are continuing to work with the City of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy to manage the beaver(s).
For those who are not familiar with our organization: Upstream Pittsburgh, formerly known as Nine Mile Run Watershed Association restores and protects its watershed ecosystem, while working regionally to support and implement resilient solutions for a healthy urban environment. 2021 is the 20th anniversary of our organization and the 15th anniversary of the Nine Mile Run Stream Restoration.
