Several sources have indicated that there will be a white nationalist rally on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill tomorrow, August 25th, to protest the toppling of the Confederate Monument, Silent Sam. These groups are a danger to public safety, and propagate bigoted and racist ideologies that don't represent our community. They hope to incite anger and fear - we must show we are stronger than that.
Following the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally, in which 3 people died and 34 were injured, many people may feel unsafe protesting or even stepping foot on campus. This donation platform was set up as an alternative method to fight back. All donations will go to the Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit that is "dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. Using litigation, education, and other forms of advocacy, the SPLC works toward the day when the ideals of equal justice and equal opportunity will be a reality."
