Help us purchase a wheelchair hand bike for a disabled student at our next bike reveal!
In this time of uncertainty, there is one fundamental truth that gives us hope - that together we can do great things. While we can no longer convene in person, Going Places has continued to support our local community by launching virtual campaigns to bring Joy to those on the frontlines of battling COVID-19 while raising funds for our important work that will continue through the year.
During this time, we are also thinking of the 1,500+ kids that together, we have given bikes to over the last 3 years and hope those bikes are helping them cope with the stresses of this crisis and enabling them to escape isolation in what may be a troubled home, even if for a few moments. And this is why we need to continue our mission now more than ever.
TODAY Going Places is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of unity and giving. #GivingTuesdayNow is marked as a day where we can still show social connection and come together on behalf of our communities even while practicing physical distancing.
With your help, we’ll raise the $1,000 needed to purchase the wheelchair handbike needed for one special needs 2nd-grade child that attends Stono Park Elementary, one of the two next schools where we will be surprising all of the enrolled kids at with bikes this fall/early winter (rescheduled bike reveal that was supposed to be this May).
We were hoping to raise the needed funds for this special bike at our scheduled March 21, 2020 gala but due to Covid-19, we had to reschedule it for the fall/winter of 2020, not giving us another opportunity to raise this needed money in time.
Being that this is a special bike, the cost is much higher than an able-body bike. We do not want to ever leave any child out at our bike reveals, no matter the cost, that is why we are asking for your help to buy this $973.65 bike.
We worked diligently with the child’s occupational therapist and The Amtryke Adaptive Tricycle Program where their goal is to provide people who benefit from their trykes with all the classic advantages of riding a bike.
***We’re also excited to announce that the generous nonprofit, I Got Legs has stepped up to match the first $250 raised for the wheelchair hand bike!***
***GoFundMe is generously giving away grants to the top 10 campaigns that raise the most money Tues, May 5th, 2020 at 12:00am EST - 11:59:59pm EST***
1st Place: $20,000

3rd Place: $7,500
