Hello! The Willington Hill Fire Department is a small-town volunteer fire department in Willington, CT. Since 1952, the volunteers of the WHFD have worked tirelessly to provide fire and EMS services to our neighbors in need. Our old hodge-podge fire department barely fits our current fleet, and its cramped space restricts our ability to help our community further. We need your help to begin the process of building a new station.
Our first fire station was a rented garage at a founding member's house until the association bought and built our current station at 24 Old Farms Road. Several times we've added onto our current station using private donations and loans leveraged on the houses of incredibly generous volunteers.
In 2019, a remarkable opportunity presented it's self to the WHFD; the retired Saint Jude's church across the street at 25 Old Farms Road went up for sale. After some bargaining, the volunteers were able to buy the property with private funds donated by the estate of a passing town citizen. These funds plus $50,000 leveraged against two private homes, one of a long-standing member and another of a generous citizen of the town, bought the property.
This new property gives us much-needed space to serve our local citizens, and in the future, we hope to build a new fire station on the newly purchased land. Your generous donations will help us update and maintain the new property and begin planning the new firehouse. We need funds for engineering, site work, studies required by local and state government, and matching funds if we succeed in winning grants. Please, help us help our community!
