The Chicago Full Moon Jam is entering its’ 15th season celebrating fire, drumming, and community on the Chicago lakefront. Our growth as an event and cultural institution has been both organic and wide-reaching. We believe our safety program - which over a thousand performers have taken part in - is a core reason why our fire dancing community has safe, professional norms. We have worked with community arts groups and with the city of Chicago to make fire dancing a visible and iconic art form via parades and special performances. We share our lakefront venue with other circus and and movement based performance groups, creating an artistic cross-pollination that can only allow for more artistic growth and appreciation.
More than the planned programming, however, the Full Moon Jam has created an opportunity for a blossoming community ecosystem to flourish. From dancing and drumming, to photography, yoga, slack-lining, juggling groups, professional meetups, social gatherings, simply enjoying a night out and meeting neighbors, it is the full participation and love of everyone who gathers that makes our nights so magical.
We’ve come a long way from that little gathering of friends celebrating a birthday on the shores of Lake Michigan, but at our core, we’re still just a group of friends coming together to enjoy fire, music, dancing, and a picnic dinner under the moonlight.
With this growth, comes real organizational responsibilities and costs. The Jam will always be free to the public - that is essential to who we are - but we do need our community’s support to make this happen. We have rising permitting and insurance costs, and despite our partnerships and grants, we need to find ways to make the Full Moon Jam financially sustainable.
As mentioned in the fundraising video, we want to be entirely transparent with our budgeting, so you know where the funds are going - not a single organizer is paid to run the Full Moon Jam, every dollar goes to permitting, insurance, and essential gear for producing the Jam, especially safety and fueling.
We’ve got a couple different goals that we’d love to reach that could be beneficial to the community, so we’ve got three tiers of goals:
Goal 1: $16,000
Full Moon Jam costs for the next two years will be secured.
Goal 2: $18,000
In addition to Jam costs, we can engage in enhanced fire safety and community mediation training for our volunteers
Goal 3: $22,000
All of the above, plus we’ll be able to provide fuel, which is currently donated by our performers
Our community has always supported our efforts, and engaged in a full, participatory manner. If you can help us ensure the financial health of the Full Moon Jam, you’ll be supporting a beautiful gift to the community.

Thank you all for your support, and we can’t wait to celebrate with this beautiful community very soon!
