Why this cause is important to me.
I signed up for this challenge to support my mother and sister in their love for the Mohonk mountains / Shawangunk Mountains ("the Gunks"). While my mother has called Philadelphia, PA, home for over 30 years, the second she has a free stretch of more than 2 days off from work, she’s already packing and shortly after hitting the road and speeding on 87 up to the Gunks. She then spends all of the daylight hours rock climbing and hiking in the mountains. At the end of the day, you can find her cooking for a crowd at her home in Gardiner where she frequently hosts climbers who camp in the backyard.
My sister Emma has lived in Gardiner 5 years and at this point it’s safe to say she wouldn’t be where she is today without her career, friends, and passions that arose from her proximity to the Mohonk mountain range. Emma not only works at an outdoor retailer, she spends most of her free time appreciating the Mohonk mountain range first hand, frequently climbing and hiking in these mountains which are essentially her backyard.
There is no better way to appreciate the beauty and majesty of the Mohonk Mountains than firsthand. Helping protect the mountains is equally important. And that’s why I’m here. The money donated in this campaign goes directly to the Mohonk Preserve, Inc. so that future families, climbers, hikers, explorers, and outdoor enthusiasts can experience what we has already brought joy, formed friendships, and fed passions for so many.
I’ve agreed to be responsible for $300 by 4/27/2020. This GoFundMe will funnel all funds directly to the Mohonk Mountain Preserve, Inc. Please join me in celebrating this cause. My training regimen consists of many long runs and eating raw vegan to help boost my energy, stamina, and shorten recovery times. I will be running the 50-mile race on Saturday, May 2nd!

Rock The Ridge is a 50-mile endurance challenge.
Set in the natural beauty of the Shawangunk Mountains of New York’s Hudson Valley, an area described as “one of Earth’s last great places,” the goal is to run or hike a 50-mile course within 18 hours. What better way to spend a day than winding along well-maintained carriage roads, through lush forests and over ridgelines with magnificent vistas.
Rock The Ridge supports a great cause.
This event supports Mohonk Preserve’s mission to protect the Shawangunk Mountains region and inspire people to care for, enjoy, and explore their natural world. With over 8,000 acres of mountain ridges, forests, fields, streams, ponds, and other unique and beautiful places, Mohonk Preserve is the largest member and visitor-supported nature preserve in New York State.
We salute all Ridge Rockers, who since 2013 have collectively raised over $1,800,000 to support Mohonk Preserve’s award-winning conservation science, environmental education, land protection, and stewardship programs.
Rock The Ridge is a major achievement.
The 18-hour time limit accommodates people with a range of abilities, including hikers, joggers, runners, and ultramarathoners. We’ve hosted elite athletes alongside first-time 50-milers and relay teams that walked the entire distance. Any distance can be a struggle if you don’t prepare properly, but with a good training program, 50 miles is an achievable goal! And, for those who aren’t ready for 50-miles, the Relay division allows Ridge Rockers to complete the course in two-or four-member teams.
