We have grown up with AutismUp! As the kids' have aged the programs continue to bring support not only for them, but for all of us.
In July, Olivia had her first anniversary at Wegmans. We are so thankful she participated in Project Search! She continues to send her cards for life events to her friends. She's also studying for her driving permit since transportation is vital.
After this next school year Spencer will be searching for a pre-vocational program as he ages out of school. He continues to benefit from inclusion to grow his social skills as he teaches through the ZooTeen Leader program at the Seneca Park Zoo. One future potential fit is a collaboration of Strong Museum of Play, ARC of Monroe and AutismUp. Another is at the ARC Deli.
There is so much happening with the Fall opening of The Golisano Autism Center. We have a feeling of hope because we know the focus of AutismUp has shifted to employment. Children continue to benefit from life changing programming like the Social Skill Education Program in collaboration with the YMCA allowing kids the chance to attend a supported camp experience, and the iCanBike program held at RIT utilizing adapted bikes so children and young adults learn to ride a bike independently and many others...but now with the great collaborations being made, businesses are growing in their awareness of what individuals on the spectrum can bring to companys. They are learning that they can benefit from employing individuals with autism, if they have some training, which AutismUp can provide.
That's a huge difference from when we first received our diagnoses almost 20 years ago. We were pretty much ushered out the door and on our own. And now, thanks to AutismUp and Family Navigators, that just isn't the case. The Golisano Autism Center will be a haven of supports, services and information so that no family feels the isolation we felt.
So with all that AutusmUp still needs to do, we have created our Kite Flite team in hopes you will support all the exciting growth anticipated and successes to be had. That's the call! Support, Opportunity, Success! Where there is help, there is hope! We hope we can count on your help!
