From Cali to Canada – A “Weekend of Brain Health” in Support of One Mind
My name is Jaime Orozco and I am the Hospitality Manager at Staglin Family Vineyard, located in the heart of Napa Valley! I love my family, friends, traveling, golf, my career, helping others and of course; fitness!
In March of 2019, I decided to run my first half marathon, which I finished in 1h48m. I used my race as a platform to raise money for brain health research and chose ONE MIND as the beneficiary (www.onemind.org). The efforts of my campaign not only helped raise awareness in my community, but also helped raise over $25k. The training for the race was like nothing I had done before, yet it was worth every bead of sweat! Prior to this, I was not a runner...
What next? Well, I have decided to up the ante and run my first full marathon (26.2 miles) on August 25, 2019 and participate in the Santa Rosa Marathon. I intend to do my part in helping raise a total of $10k by race day and your support is very much appreciated. I say my part, because my colleague, Garett Slettebak of ONE MIND, will be bicycling in the 188-mile RSVP Bike Ride that goes from Seattle, WA to Vancouver, Canada and we both look forward to finishing our races on August 25th!
Why brain health and why running? Because 1 in 4 Americans suffer from mental/brain illnesses including, depression, bi-polar disorder, schitzophrenia, PTSD and beyond. I will run for those who can't, to raise awareness and your donation will help make a difference! Running for me has been a great way to elevate not only my physical health, but mental health alike. It too helps me through life challenges, as we all have, in order to not fall into the hands of depression.
Your donation will be used to fund the research of various brain illnesses and conditions in hopes of creating better treatment. ONE MIND works with scientists from the nation’s leading universities, including Harvard, UCSF, MIT and UCLA, to name a few.
Thank you in advance for your contribution, for your donation will be a motivation for me to finish my race.
