The Imagination Library of Montgomery County will hit a big milestone this year by mailing its One Millionth Book! Our program has been growing since 2006, and we are proud to supply age-appropriate books to over 9,300 local children each and every month.
The mission of The Imagination Library of Montgomery County is to boost language acquisition, literacy, and kindergarten readiness in local preschoolers by mailing an age-appropriate, high-quality Imagination Library book to the home of each child every month, at no cost to families and regardless of income.

By age three, children from low-income families hear as many as 30 million fewer words than their more affluent peers.
This vocabulary development by age three has been found to accurately predict achievement in third grade.
Children with as few as 25 books in the home complete an average of two more years of schooling than those without.
Book to child ratio in mid-income neighborhoods is 13:1, sadly this drops to 1:300 in low-income communities.
Only 43% of Tennessee 3rd graders are reading proficiently, the 3rd to 8th grade average TCAP score in reading and language level in Montgomery County is at 41.9%.
Montgomery County's Imagination Library program seeks to positively impact the long-term educational outcomes of preschool children within our county by building a love of reading and learning through books.

Montgomery County is in the top 6 largest distributors of Imagination Library books in Tennessee. Between 9,000 - 10,000 age appropriate books land in local mailboxes each month to children between the ages of birth to five years.

Every dollar you donate is tax-deductible and every penny will be used to pay for books sent out to children in Montgomery County. All donations are matched by our partner program, Governor’s Books from Birth Foundation, to cover our county book bill of $220,000 per year. Here’s the thing, to keep our kids supplied with books at the rate we are growing - $110,000 of that book bill has to come from fundraising within Montgomery County.
