When I was in my early 20's, which seems like a lifetime ago, I answered an ad for volunteers at my local domestic violence shelter and my perception of the world changed. Very fortunate to grow up in a loving, nonviolent home, I was shocked by the statistics of domestic and sexual violence in my rural county of New Jersey. Each evening, I would return from the volunteer training course wondering how I had been so naive as not to see what was happening in my community. I knew I wanted to be part of the solution, not a bystander, and certainly not a bystander blind to domestic and sexual violence that is so prevalent in our culture. Fast forward almost 30 years later, and I am the Associate Director of DASI- Domestic Abuse & Sexual Assault Intervention Services. I am grateful to all of the women and men who have come before me in this fight against domestic and sexual violence and human trafficking. I hold a special place in my heart for each victim and survivor story where I honor them, their bravery and their resilience. Victims and survivors deserve to be believed and protected. Please join me in raising money for DASI so that victims and survivors seeking safety, legal advocacy, counseling and financial and emotional support can be assured that DASI will be there for them today, tomorrow and many years to come.
