Our dear friend Coca’s daughter, Beatrice Ghiceanu, is all grown up and graduated from high school this spring. She was accepted to nursing school and this fall began classes at the Iceul Tehnologic "Al. I. Cuza" Bârlad! As many of you know, Coca is a single parent to Beatrice and her older brother. What you may not know, is that after Coca’s sister died, she also took in her nephew and raised him. If you were a Global Volunteer, maybe you enjoyed Coca’s hospitality, visiting her home in rural Tutova. She continues to live modestly, commuting on the minibus from Tutova to our Delia’s Learning Center in Barlad each weekday. It’s a real stretch to be able to send Beatrice to school and continue to meet other financial needs. One of Coca’s co-workers brought this to our attention. The cost of the nursing school is equal to $1,800 U.S dollars, with each semester costing $600 USD. That may not seem like a lot in US dollars but keep in mind the current exchange rate is 4 Lei to 1 USD.
We have all been fond of Coca from the moment we witnessed her kindness to the kids at the Barlad Children’s Hospital. Who can forget all of those little arms outstretched from cribs as the children called out “Coca, Coca, " eager to be picked up for some of Coca's love and attention. Beatrice shares this trait of warmth and kindness and enjoys helping out at our Center from time to time.
This GoFund Me will raise funds through The Delia Foundation, which will directly transfer all funds to Beatrice. This enables you to be able to receive a tax donation for your contribution and it also provides a way to electronically transfer funds internationally.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
