WHAT WE DO
Since the start of this pandemic, we have been working to provide groceries to immigrant and undocumented families in our community who are afraid or unable to access established food banks while they deal with job and income loss during Covid-19. Through our Food Garage, we deliver more than 300 boxes of needed groceries a week to families in our community. We need a commercial refrigerator or CoolBot to keep this food fresh, healthy and safe for families to consume before we box it up and deliver it.
WHAT WE NEED
We need your help to purchase a refrigeration unit that will allow us to keep produce and perishables fresh for families that need food. Any additional funds over the cost of the unit (or if we receive a donated fridge) will be invested directly into the Semilla Collective's food distribution effort. If the project disburses, the fridge will be donated or sold, with proceeds directly benefitting the families we deliver food to.
Note: This is related to the New Haven Area Mutual Aid Fund but separate because all donations to that fund go directly to supporting families. Please donate to both if you are able :) If you would like to donate a different way, please contact Venmo @SemillaFund or contact us at solidarityNHV@gmail.com. These donations will be routed through our fiscal sponsor, the United Way of Greater New Haven.
WHO WE ARE
The Semilla Collective of New Haven is a grassroots collective formed in the Fall of 2019 to fight side by side with immigrant and working families, and to host cultural events in our community. We are a diverse group of immigrants and immigrant allies living on Quinnipiac land in New Haven, we are using our collective imagination to build a better world for future generations.
