Please join me Friday at 10:00am for yoga and good work raising funds and love for hungry kids. As a mom, I find childhood hunger particularly painful and unacceptable. These poor parents, struggling to find food to feed their children! Even before the COVID19 crisis, millions of hungry kids relied on school for food. For many, it was the only food they might get on a given day.
With classrooms closed, schools and local nonprofits are struggling to reach kids with the meals they need. And with many parents out of work, more children in the United States are facing hunger than ever before. From the halls of Congress to our local school, No Kid Hungry is working to ensure kids get three healthy meals a day.
In California, the COVID19 pandemic has hit both Oakland and Coachella particularly hard. At one school in Oakland, more than 80% of the families had lost one job in the household, and more than 60% had lost two.
To date, No Kid Hungry has sent $13.3 million in emergency relief to hundreds of schools and community groups across all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. These funds, and hands-on guidance, are helping NKH serve an estimated 8.5 million meals a day during this crisis.
Let's join together for our yoga practice and chip away at this big problem. Let's energetically share our intention and prayer, and practically, share our $$ so that kids can eat and that parents struggling to feed their kids can feel some support.
