We are super excited to work with Arianne to help Colin get an All Around Blade Racer!
Here is a little background, from Arianne:
I found out about Ainsley's Angels by word of mouth and we were introduced to them at the Abilities Expo a few years ago. Colin was able to take a "test drive" in one of their adaptive jogging strollers. Being a speed freak, to say he loved it was an understatement! I knew that I had to do what I could to get Colin paired with a runner.
Participating in the races gives Colin and I to be a part of an activity that gets us out of the house. Colin is a very social kid and loves interacting with people and he enjoys these races. I have attempted to make running a part of my routine and my hope is that I can add half marathons as something I can do with Colin.
Colin was born at 25 weeks and spent 4.5 months in the NICU at Children's Hospital. Like many micro-preemies, he showed his strength early on and I believe with our support, he is a large part of the reason he is here today. Unfortunately the stress of caring for a medically fragile child took its toll on his parents, and we separated and divorced when Colin was 3. As a single working parent, I work hard to make sure to give Colin a life that he is an active participant in. Despite a diagnosis of Cerebral Palsy, being considered legally blind and having various developmental and speech delays, he continues to amaze us today.
Which is what brings us to Ainsley's Angels and our hope to continue being involved with the organization. It has been a challenge getting Colin to most races since most of the volunteers are based down in San Diego, over 3+ hours from our home. This is why I would like to have our own jogging stroller so I can be the one pushing Colin in races near our home. Wearing the Ainsley's Angel logo, I can encourage other families to live an active lifestyle with their kids no matter what.
Thank you!
