Make your PFD work for social justice in Alaska.
The Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend will begin payouts July 1st this year. AKIP’s effort to fund the search for justice for T.J. Edward’s is short of our fundraising goal. Because of the virus, we are not able to pursue fundraising through typical means. Please consider donating a portion of your PFD in place of our cancelled fundraising efforts.
In 2004, Talalelei (TJ) Edwards was wrongfully convicted, resulting in his spending 14 years in prison, losing 14 Permanent Fund Dividend Checks for a crime he did not commit. You can donate a part of your PFD check to correct this injustice. On July 1, when you receive your PFD, please think of T.J. Edwards and all he lost.
The Alaska Innocence Project is proud to represent TJ in his ongoing efforts for exoneration, but he needs your help now more than ever. As we prepare for his October hearing, TJ’s case depends on substantial financial support. The case requires substantial expert testimony to present properly.
Even if TJ successfully proves his innocence, lawmakers have yet to pass a law that would allow an exonerated individual to receive their past dividend checks. Donating your PFD is a tax-deductible donation to invest in TJ’s freedom, and future.
Click the link and add your support. Although the “Pick, Click, Give” deadline has passed it is not too late to donate a part of your PFD. It is not enough just to "Like" or "Share" or "ReTweet." Give something, now, and then ask others to join you.
