13.2 % of people in Guelph Ontario suffer from food insecurity in an average year.... and this number is increasing daily during the pandemic.
The Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition (GNSC) supports a North End Harvest Market (NEHM) in Guelph that provides weekly, FREE, fresh produce market for those struggling to put food on their plates. The NEHM has been running since July 2014 through donations, personal gifts, and some small community grants, and we are needing more support now more than ever.
We have a passionate team consisting of a Market Manager, Chalmers Community Services, Upper Grand District School Board, Trinity United Church, North Riverside Neighbourhood Group, ARCH, and First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Community. Together we have built a welcoming and powerful program that provides fresh and healthy food to hundreds of community members each week.
The North End Harvest Market has become more than just a place of food distribution – it is also a place for advocacy, friendship, support, and connections to community resources. It has become a place for people to feel safe, to laugh and enjoy each others company in a non-judgmental, supportive and diverse environment.
In pre-pandemic times, the market would spend $600.00 on fresh food each week and that need has increased our weekly need to $1,500.00 supporting over 500 people weekly. We are solely funded by community support so we need your help to keep this essential program running.
