Ever since I was a kid, I always put out luminaries on Christmas (paper bags with sand and candles in them) with my father, later by myself, and now with my kids. I said I did it for others to enjoy but I also did it because it always meant Christmas to me. I’ve taken this tradition with me as an adult across 2 states and 7 towns for over 25 years.
This year, I want to help spread holiday cheer further and with the encouragement of my own son Michael, have a mini fundraiser.
My father passed away 13 years ago from leukemia. Christmas, luminaries and my dad go hand in hand. This year, I’ve decided to try and raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in his memory. If you would like to participate, my kids and I will provide the labor to set up, light the candles and remove the bags as well as provide all the materials. We’ll line the street in front of your house (about 12 to 15 bags per house) and suggesting a donation of $50.
I hope you’ll choose to join me in the fight against Leukemia and help spread the holiday cheer! Please do whatever you think is right, it will look awesome either way.
