I'm running the Colfax Urban 10-Miler to fundraise for KIPP Colorado Schools. To be perfectly honest, I'm doing it for my students. A lot of the money we raise will go towards KIPP Through College (KTC), which is the college counseling program of KIPP Colorado Schools. Through KTC, our students visit college campuses, fly out to summer programs, pay for the ever-expensive testing and admissions process- basically, if it’s part of the college process, we’re involved! What I love about KTC’s vision is that we make a commitment to our students to support them in getting to and through college. As part of the College Counseling team, I work with high school students to get them ready for the admissions process so they find a school that will be a good fit for them. However, our Alumni team works with our students after they graduate high school, supporting them from the transition to freshman year through to their graduation year. They make sure our students have their financial aid in order and that they are using all their resources at their campuses to make the most of their college experience.
I recently had the privilege of watching Hamilton: An American Musical. One line in particular struck me: “There will be more of us tomorrow.” I could only think of my students who will be in college soon, will be graduating soon, will be joining us in the workforce soon. Every day, I see how hard they work, even though they usually have a million things going on that make their lives far more complicated than they should be. Knowing there will be more of us tomorrow and seeing them every day in my classroom, I’m running the Colfax Urban 10-Miler make sure KTC can support them the best way we can. Thank you for your support!
