Nearly 60,000 people are homeless in Los Angeles County. Homelessness has reached crisis levels—it’s reported in the national news and has become a topic synonymous with Los Angeles. Homelessness impacts everyone in our community, and any opportunity to raise money or awareness about this crisis helps.
August 17, 2019 Shelter Partnership’s Associate Board of Young Professionals will be hosting its Fourth Annual Run for Shelter 5K in Santa Monica. The event will raise funds to help keep Shelter Partnership doing everything possible to fight homelessness in Los Angeles.
Since 1985, Shelter Partnership has been among the leaders in the fight against homelessness in Southern California. In its history, Shelter Partnership has helped secure over $1 billion in funding for the homeless of L.A. County, helped quadruple the number of beds in the short-term housing system, and helped several cities plan and implement homeless programming. Shelter Partnership also operates the S. Mark Taper Foundation Shelter Resource Bank, a warehouse project that distributes – free of charge – donations of unused surplus inventory from manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers to homeless service agencies throughout Los Angeles. The warehouse works like a food bank, but only distributes non-perishable goods like clothes and hygiene products. Over the last 30 years, the warehouse has distributed over $240 million in goods to over 600 organizations directly serving the homeless and those struggling with poverty. Please consider joining us by donating, fundraising, or running (or by doing any combination of the three!). Support from friends like you help keep Shelter Partnership fighting for the homeless men, women, and children of our community.
