Liberation School South fortifies and supports changemakers in movement building to center healing and spiritual practice.
We believe that in order to enhance changemaker resilience, heal through trauma and build the world we need inside and out, healing and spirituality are strategic imperatives for how we build movements.
In 2019, we are daring to level up. As we continue to build a more just world, Liberation School South is committed to making sure we get there through collective healing. Our second cohort is moving through the world more brave, courageous and free each day- from teaching each other about herbs to filling our doula bags for life’s big and hard moments and we are preparing to open a third cohort this summer.
Our spring campaign, #loveandlevelup, is a call to action. We are inviting our folks to move from a place of deep and rigorous love and join us in the transformation. The co-coordinators are doing this by taking serious the work of discernment as one of our beloved co-coordinators, Jardana, is transitioning out of the core team. Alongside taking the work of discernment seriously in your own life, one of the most important ways to join us this spring is with your support.
Our goal for the campaign is to raise $3,000 that will go towards scholarships for southern changemakers, resource generation and to support a leadership transition. We know that we only get through these transformations if we move together from love. We know that every gift takes risk- we are grateful beyond words for people who choose to journey alongside us.
Since 2016, we have been building the experiment of Liberation School South. We've been asking three key questions.
How do we build long haul movements for justice?
How can healing and spirituality remain central to our activism and organizing?
How can our internal organizational culture and structure reflect our values of anti-oppression, love, healing, and spirit?
We are now in our second cohort year, and we have a strong co-coordination team, a brilliant second cohort working and living in the US South and we see and feel the impact of this leadership program.
"I feel seen and held by the community created at Liberation School South in a way that has encouraged me to lean into authenticity and magic. To be surrounded by love, compassion and intention has created new ways of thinking and dreaming what our movement for liberation can look like.” -Asha Kuziwa (2018/19 cohort)
We have changed, shifted and emerged through the years to respond to the needs of our movements for change. Help us to continue to meet the needs of changemakers across the US South, to find respite, explore healing, and show up to the pain of intergenerational trauma as folks strengthen bonds with each other so that they can continue to fortify our movements for change.
#LoveandLevelUp with us--Fortify us so that we may continue to fortify them.
The impact of Liberation School South is deep. We offer the medicine of connection and support in ways that many activists and organizers have little access to.
“9 months ago I had a lot of fear and fear based actions some that belonged to me and some that were my ancestors. Through the experience of Liberation School I began to remember my joy. “ --Deitrah J. Taylor (2017/18 cohort).
The need is still big for a program like Liberation School South. We offer sliding scale rates and no one is turned away for lack of funds. As we grow, we know that this unique program will only be as good and strong as the community of care and support that surrounds us.
Help us move into our third cohort year, offer scholarships and support the growth of this small but mighty project!
