Tough Ruck is group of military and civilians whose sole purpose is to ruck in honor and in memory of our fallen service members, police, firefighters and EMTs, while raising funds to support military families in times of need, specifically via Military Friends Foundation (MFF), a non-profit organization proudly serving Massachusetts National Guard, Reserves and Families of the Fallen. Through generous donations made by individuals and companies, MFF has been able to provide over half a million dollars to Massachusetts military families in times of need.
On Sunday, April 14, the day before I participate in the 2019 Boston Marathon, I will join nearly 1000 others in Concord, Massachusetts, to walk the 26.2-mile course on the original trails of the Revolutionary War. I'll be carrying a 35-pound pack bearing the names of fallen service members to honor their memory. Having been born on the Fourth of July, I've long possessed a heightened sense of national pride, and I consider it a privilege to participate in this event.
I realize most of you neither live in Massachusetts nor have family members residing there. As such, I'm prepared to cover the required fundraising minimum from my own pocket. However, to incent giving, I am matching all donations at a rate that will increase with the more donations I receive, and I will direct those proceeds to Wounded Warrior Project, a national organization supporting veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in our military on or after 9/11. I'll be matching as follows:
(1) If the total raised is less than $450, I'll match it at a 10 percent rate. For example, if my campaign raises $300, I'll make a gift of $30 to Wounded Warrior.
(2) If the total raised is at least $450 but less than $950, I'll match it at a 15 percent rate. For example, if my campaign raises $600, I'll make a gift of $90 to Wounded Warrior.
(3) If the total raised is at least $950 but less than $1500, I'll match it at a 20 percent rate. For example, if my campaign raises $1200, I'll make a gift of $240 to Wounded Warrior.
(4) If the total raised is at least $1500, I'll match it at a 25 percent rate up to a maximum of $500. For example, if my campaign raises $1500, I'll make a gift of $375 to Wounded Warrior.
Further, if you make a gift and would like me to recognize a fallen family member, friend, or other loved one by carrying their name with me in April, please provide me their name(s) and as many details as you care to divulge concerning their branch of service, etc.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION AND, HOPEFULLY, YOUR SUPPORT!
