In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"In the third trimester of pregnancy, Alisa's mother was given bad news: premature aging of the placenta, the child has hydrocephalus and agenesis of the corpus callosum.
After the birth, Alice was immediately taken to the intensive care unit. The baby did not eat at all, she often vomited from the slightest drop of mother's milk, she was given drips, fed through a tube. She was also diagnosed with a genetic condition (chromosome 8p duplication).
"She will never be like you and me," the doctors told little Alisa's mother.
She will soon be 2 years old and is learning to crawl and take steps with assistance. Alisa has impaired fine and gross motor skills and also suffers from metabolic disorders. Eating for Alisa is very difficult: she cannot not chew, she often has bouts of vomiting and weakness and she is underweight.
To gain weight and improve her health, she needs special nutriton - formula and soft baby food. She also needs diapers.
We urge all of you to support the child that doctors did not believe in from birth. "She will never be like you and me," doctors once told Alice's young mother. And it's true, it's not much better! She will win! She just needs a little help."
Can you help us raise the funds needed to purchase nutrition, baby food and diapers for Alisa for the next 3 months?
