In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Artem is 5 years old. He was a welcome and long-awaited baby! At the age of six months he was growing and meeting milestones. Then suddenly he started to lose all his skills. After genetic analysis, everything became clear: Artem had spinal muscular atrophy. This is a genetic disease, when there is a gradual destruction of all nerve cells, which leads to the loss of all skills until the inability to swallow and breathe on their own. There are only around 200 people in Ukraine with this diagnosis.
Smiley little Artem can sit with support and hold his head, and for this diagnosis it is a great achievement! He loves to watch cartoons, draw, play board games. Knows almost all the alphabet and numbers! Artem dreams of a four-legged friend - a dog. The most important thing today is to maintain Artem's condition at the same level, not to allow the disease to progress. In the diet of Artem is a required intake of vitamins, amino acids and special nutrition. These things are very expensive in Ukraine.
His family need your help to keep their son healthy!
We are raising funds to cover the cost of Artem's special formula for the next 6 months.
