As you all probably know by now, I am out of work for 12 weeks for bilateral knee replacements. One of my therapy goals will be to walk in a 5K in honor of my brother, Greg. It is Walk for the Wounded and Warriors 5K Run/Walk held by www.OperationFirstResponse.org. I will be taking my cane and pain killers to Rose Tree Park in Media on Saturday, May 18th.
If you die while actively getting paid by the military, they immediately close everything down. All accounts and records closed. The health insurance for the family may be messed up. As a result, the families of these folks who served are left with little income and questions regarding healthcare benefits. Greg died 11/3/18 and Dianna has yet to receive all the money the military owes her.
Once Greg died and she had no income, Dianna was referred to Operation First Response. After verifying her circumstances, Operation First Response paid her mortgage, her water/sewer and electric bills. Without them she and many other families would be worrying about losing their homes on top of grieving. Dianna met a young mother there with 2 small children who was pregnant with a 3rd when her husband died in the same boat. It's ridiculous. It's horrifying. It's disgraceful.
Our goal as a family, is to repay this wonderful organization and then give them even more to pay it forward. Even $1 would be awesome! If you like, you can go on line to www.OperationFirstResponse.org
and donate directly. If you would do it in honor of SMSgt. Gregory Angstadt, that would be even more awesome!!! You can also go to the website if you would like to participate in the 5K yourself.
If nothing else, stop by that day in Media, the Phillie Phanatic will be there and there will be zip lining and other fun stuff!
Thank you so much for your generosity and support!
12th Annual Walk for the Wounded.Join us for a fun day while supporting our nation’s Wounded Warriors.Participants are encouraged to recruit a team of friends, family, or co-workers and register here on the site. Individual registrations as well as donations in lieu of attendance are also welcomed.--------------------------------------The mission of Operation First Response, Inc (OFR) is to serve all branches of our nation's Wounded Warriors and their families with personal and financial needs. Services are provided from the onset of injuries or illness, throughout their recovery period and along their journey from military life to the civilian world. Financial aid varies as each case is based on individual needs ranging from rent, utilities, vehicle payments, groceries, clothing, and travel expenses. It is hard for us to comprehend waking up each day in a hostile country, putting our life on the line to protect people from terrorists who have no fear and no conscience about planning and conducting mass murder. It is harder still to imagine how it feels to be at the heart of a bomb explosion – or to be shot by snipers – or to be the target of a single man or woman whose mission is ... to be a human bomb.
Sadly, many lives are lost. But of equal importance are the lives that are changed forever in the blink of an eye by severe wounds, life changing amputations, and painful surgeries – often followed by mounting bills at home, necessary job retraining, home renovations and more. Just dealing with the emotional scars is difficult – but with your donations OFR ‘has their back’ on the home front.
