You can’t learn when you are hungry.
Right now, families in our school community - in your neighborhood - don’t have enough food. The impacts of this pandemic have made it even harder for the most vulnerable families to find work and feed their families.
You can help. 100% of your donation today will go directly to feeding families through the purchase of grocery store gift cards that make it easy for families to get the food they need, when they need it.
How do we know families are struggling? Because we asked. Back in September, Roxhill Elementary School’s counselor, Amber, started reaching out to families to ask what they needed right now. Her early findings were so urgent, we started the fundraising before she even finished collecting data.
“Roxhill Elementary has the most amazing community of bright, loving kids and caring, generous families," said Ms. Amber, Roxhill Elementary School Counselor. "I know how hard it is to ask for help, so I honor every parent that has had the courage to let me know they need help right now. This is what community is about."
Because of you, families will have dinner. Because of you, kids will have breakfast that can sustain them through their classes. It’s that simple.
And the more we raise, the more food the families have. Gift cards will be distributed to any family that asks for help.
In case you don’t know about our school, Roxhill Elementary is a small but mighty Title I school with approximately 250 students, located in the south end of West Seattle. 70% of our students are on free and reduced lunch. 30% of our student families are supported by the Seattle Housing Authority. 85% of the student population is BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Person of Color). School family events draw over 300 attendees, demonstrating a strong sense of community.
This is a stretch fundraising goal for us; but now is the moment to stretch ourselves, in the face of hunger. You can help us show every family that they are seen and cared for. We want every family to succeed.
Make your gift today, then share it on social media and send it to your family. This is a moment when we need to come together.
