Why we run
May 08 2020 . Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA

Twelve runners, two vans, one goal: support the teachers, students, and community of the King Open School.

For the fifth year in a row, a team of parents will be completing Ragnar Cape Cod, a 200 mile running relay, to raise funds for the King Open School.

Our school is vibrant, diverse, joyful, and committed to Martin Luther King's ideals of peace and social justice. Five years ago, a group of King Open School parents launched FOKOruns, with the goal of increasing much-needed resources for our teachers so that they can continue to promote excellence and equity for all learners. This effort was such a success -- we have raised over $50,000 over the past four years -- that we continue to train for an run this race each year.

The FOKOruns team will once again join the Ragnar Cape Relay in a 2-day relay running event, stretching out over 200 miles of Cape Cod, from Duxbury all the way to Smuggler's Beach. On May 8-9, 2020 our team of 14 King Open parents will train through the winter and spring, and then spend two days running throughout the day and night to reach the finish line.

Friends of King Open (FOKO) is a parent-run 501c3 non-profit group.
