Maple Falls Park Group (MFPG) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that organizes fundraising, events and carries out grounds maintenance and park improvement projects for Maple Falls Community Park (a Whatcom County Park). MFPG is a completely volunteer-run organization, including a six-member board of directors and many dedicated community volunteers.
In 2020, with the help of dedicated community volunteers and board members, MFPG installed a quarter-mile gravel fitness trail and eight landscaped planting beds around the perimeter of the park. The next phase of the project is to purchase and install three Burke exercise stations (links below).
The total cost of the project is $19,000. This includes the three fitness stations, tax and freight ($17,000), and installation materials ($2,000).
Maple Falls Park Group has received a $1,500 grant from Sierra Pacific Foundation, $3,000 from Seeking Health, and $4,500 in private donations already for this project. We need to raise an additional $10,000 to purchase the equipment by the end of 2020, as Burke has informed us that the cost of the equipment and freight will be increasing in 2021.
Maple Falls Community Park has seen a huge increase in use this year as individuals and families seek safe outdoor spaces to recreate and exercise. Many members of the community have told us that if it weren’t for the park and the fitness trail, they would be spending a lot more time indoors and not exercising regularly or at all.
We hope that with your generosity we can complete the next phase of the fitness trail project and ensure that our community has an accessible and safe place to recreate and exercise YEAR-ROUND!
Maple Falls Community Park is located at 7470 Second Street, Maple Falls, WA 98266.
