If you have personally experienced the benefits of a fit and healthy lifestyle, then you already know the amazing impact it can have on one’s life. An increased energy level and a sense of feeling alive are just a part — fitness also has the ability to improve motivation, coordination and a sense of empowerment! Now imagine what this could do for an autistic child or an adult with cerebral palsy.
The special needs community is no different when it comes to reaping the rewards of a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately though, when it comes to fitness, this community is woefully underserved in the Twin Cities and across the nation. Few licensed fitness professionals are experienced in working with this very specialized population. Twin Cities F.I.T. exercise physiologists are knowledgeable of and work well within the parameters of their clients limitations whether cognitive, sensory, physical, behavioral or verbal. Through earned trust and customized workouts designed for each individual, they practice what they like to call, fitness integrated therapy.
Twin Cities F.I.T., a non-profit that works exclusively with children, teens and adults with special needs and/or chronic health issues. Their history is filled with remarkable examples of the impact they have made in the lives of their clients -- most of whom struggle with autism, cerebral palsy or Down syndrome to name a few. Their successes often impart a dramatic positive change for their client’s family as well.
“My daughter, Eve, began working with Twin Cities F.I.T. almost two years ago. I can’t tell you the difference it has made in our lives! When Bri and Chris started working with Eve, she was having difficulty getting out of the bathtub independently… now she is riding a bike! Her confidence and pride are the greatest result! We were so lucky to have found them and Eve is a testament to their success!” ~ Jodi Benson, parent
“Connor, a deaf autistic adult, had gained 25 lbs. caused by his behavior medications. With Twin Cities F.I.T., Connor was able to achieve improved fitness and motivation, losing 9 lbs. in the process. His behavior subsequently improved with decreased instances of aggression allowing him to reduce his medication. With better stamina, he was able to enhance his job performance increasing his daily output. ~ Brianna Huston, BS Exercise Physiologist, Twin Cities F.I.T.
How can you help? Well, Twin Cities F.I.T. (including it’s preceding enterprise concepts) has been around since 2001. Since 2014, they have been a strictly mobile operation, greatly limiting the number of clients they could impact in a day… until now. With a newly leased facility in 2019, Twin Cities F.I.T. will spend less time on the road and more time in the gym with clients!
With a new home, there are so many additional ways to directly effect the lives of this underserved population. Your donation can provide individualized fitness therapy for a client in need or help purchase fitness equipment for the new facility, critical to getting their clients to the next level of wellness. Your donation may even put an end to their long-time, ever-growing wait list. A donation of any amount helps their small operation reach further. Your contribution can give rise to a new Twin Cities F.I.T. home and start a fitness revolution for every individual, one at a time!
Twin Cities F.I.T. is 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and is the only program in Minnesota that provides this unique fitness integrated therapy. They exist primarily through the help of donations, referrals, and other contributions.
