This effort was started in 2018 to help our membership raise funds to make mandatory repairs and upgrades to our church building in Barrington IL. We have made progress, with scheduled completion Fall 2020 and wanted to share photos--these are from March and we have some more coming!
Thank you to many who have donated already; your continued prayerful and monetary support are much appreciated.
Christian Science has been a vibrant part of the Barrington Community since early in the 20th century. In 1914 the congregation met in a basement which was affectionately known as the “Sheep Shed” on Wool Street, the location of our church today.
The structure we took down (see photo) was built in 1937 and added on to in 1961 was a beloved church home for generations of families, providing healing in the community for over 100 years. That structure was over 80 years old and in need of significant work, and we made the decision to take this step with the goal to better meet the current and future needs of our congregation and the community at large by making the needed repairs, bringing the building up to code and making it sustainable for generations to come. Some of these include:
·Demolishing the main church edifice and consolidating the Church sanctuary and Sunday school in the existing—but updated-- Sunday School building · Removing asbestos
· Making the building ADA accessible to all our congregation and visitors
· Moving our Reading Room to the same location while continuing to provide our active discussions, special programs and access to all our bible based products in our bookstore
· Using materials that are environmentally friendly and allow the building to operate sustainably (lighting, HVAC, etc.)
While we have raised a significant portion of the needed funds, we are asking for help to complete it. As we take this next step, our church has established a Building Fund for contributions through Go FundMe Charity.
We are grateful for donations of any amount. We also appreciate your prayers to fully realize the harmonious completion of this project. Many thanks for your generosity and continuing support for our church.
