Laughter echoes through the building.
What? It’s a library? Yes, and it needs your help.
It’s the Bella Vista Public Library in Bella Vista, AR, 11 Dickens Place, Bella Vista, AR.
It’s our beloved Library. We enlarged it because we used it more and more. People, books, movies, and programs stuffed it tight. We had to expand theh building, and we did it. We just finished almost doubling its size.
Our children are going to be amazed at all the space and the view of our Bella Vista forest. The whole back wall is glass. The children's librarian Ellen Farwell can't wait for the kids to see how easy it is to find books.
I'd invite you in to see the eye-popping, jaw-dropping new library, but you can't see it because of Covid-19. The virus caused the library to close, and it hasn’t reopened to the public. You can use online resources and borrow books. To find out how, visit the website: http://www.bvpl.org. Or, call 479-855-1753.
Our volunteers are mostly seniors, so they can’t safely volunteer for now. We only have five paid workers, and one of them is new and being trained. The library doesn’t have enough trained workers to open its doors. We hope that will change soon.
Even so, it's our library and we want to finish paying for it because we love it.
Why are we using crowdfunding? Because we’re so close to the end. And, because a wonderful library user Ellen Creakbaum asked, “Why don’t you set up a gofundme page? It’s so much easier to give.”
That’s when the Bella Vista Library Foundation stepped into the 21st century and set up an account. Thank you, Ellen, for your great advice.
Also, we Foundation members know you love the library because YOU Bella Vista residents gave us 90 percent of the nearly $2.5 million we’ve already raised and spent on planning and construction.
Even though we raised millions, we are $70,000 short. We’re so close. Please help us pay off our loan.
Why should we help you pay off the loan?
Our library is truly a community center.
People don’t have to keep quiet. They can come here and meet friends. No one is going to shoosh them. If you know people in our Sci Fi Book Club, ask them about their meetings. I know about them because I go to their book club meetings. The volunteer at the desk can’t wait for us to meet because our laughter changes the whole feeling of the library.
Support a place where people laugh and enjoy life.
Support a place where you can volunteer and feel good because you have a purpose.
You love how much you can do at our library.
You read. You watch movies and listen to books. You use computers to stay in touch with family, take online college courses or work on school assignments or your GED. You get to meet people with your interests through activities like Brain Teasers or the Knitting club.
Support a place where you can get things done and find friends.
Our new library will add tax money to the City of Bella Vista.
Tourists and sightseers will visit Bella Vista just to see the new library. They will want to drive out and stop in to visit this splendid building.
Support a place that will bring more sales tax dollars into the city.
What’s so great about the building?
The design has the building growing out of our hill and becoming part of our forest.
The expanded building fits its magnificent setting. It was designed by Fayetteville architect Marlon Blackwell. He has received world-wide recognition and awards for his architectural designs.
It will join other architectural masterpieces.
1. The Country Club designed by renowned architect Arkansas E. Fay Jones was finished in 1970.
2. The Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel was designed by E. Fay Jones and Maurice Jennings and was finished in 1988.
3. The Veterans Wall of Honor was dedicated in 2004.
The expanded Bella Vista Public Library continues the tradition of amazing architecture in unexpected places giving people lots of reasons to visit our City.
Support a place that adds beauty to the northwest Arkansas region..
Everyone who uses the library will enjoy the new space.
The rows of shelves are farther apart. You won't have to wait for a person to leave a row before you can walk down it.
You and a few of your friends working on projects or just having fun enjoying a book club meeting can meet in the conference room. It' s private so your noisy laughter and shouts of delight won't bother others. It holds from 14 to 20 people.
You can sit in a quiet area of the library reading, studying or just thinking.
You can find places to study. Our library finally has two study rooms where two or three people can work on a project together.
About 90 can attend fun and educational meetings in the community room. The library has had some great programs. One program people really liked was about the Orphan Train.
Our new children's room is larger and designed just for young ones. Bella Vista used to be just for retirees, but now it's a great mix of all ages. Children and teens add vibrancy to our lives. We want to add to their lives.
Support a place that adds so much to our lives.
And we’ll finish a great expansion when we pay off the last $70,000.
We need your help. Can you take us farther? In a marathon, the last few inches are the hardest. The finish line for our fundraising marathon is just inches away.
Please help. With Covid-19, we understand times are hard for some of us so give what you can; we will be so grateful. Tell others about our library and ask them to donate what they can. Share you reasons for donating and tell everyone what makes our library so fun and such an asset to our lives.
