$17.1 million is being cut in Maryland this fiscal year from after-school, teacher retention, and college readiness scholarship programs.
$88.9 million is being cut over the next five years in these same areas. At the same time, students in top-quality instrumental programs scored 17% higher in mathematics than children in schools without a music program, and 33% higher in mathematics than students in a deficient choral program (Journal for Research in Music Education, June 2007; Dr. Christopher Johnson, Jenny Memmott).
IEA recognizes the need for high-quality programs that unify music, art, and academics, giving students an avenue to achieve their educational goals while having fun at the same time. However, the recent budget cuts in Maryland have placed many schools and organizations at a disadvantage when it comes to funding music education programming. After over a decade of facilitating such programming,
IEA refuses to let the current political and financial atmosphere stop or slow down it’s mission. We are therefore reaching out to YOU, our community, and asking that you FILL THE GAP!
By supporting IEA, you will be ensuring that we maintain our operational and programmatic budget, thereby being able to continue facilitating our music education programming for students and schools that cannot afford to do so on their own.
These funds will ensure that IEA maintains its salaried workforce and the equipment necessary for continued programming. Not only that, but it will ensure that IEA can continue scaling up its model and reaching even more students who would be underexposed to music education otherwise.
Your donation will help us:
