TAKE POWER OVER PARKINSON’S
It’s estimated that 7 to 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s disease (PD), a chronic neurodegenerative condition.
While research shows that consistent exercise specifically designed for PD is key in helping individuals with the disease manage their symptoms, many individuals lack the critical resources needed to participate in these types of activities—like yoga, boxing, tai chi or cycling.
At The Recovery Project, we believe all individuals living with Parkinson's disease should have access to exercise and wellness programs to promote optimal health and independence. That’s why we decided to start the "Take Power Over Parkinson's" annual event.
The goal of this event is to raise $10,000 for those living with PD to be able to participate in the wellness programs of their choice. Regardless of whether they participate in programs at The Recovery Project or somewhere else, the key is to keep moving!
Join us on Saturday, September 22 for a few hours of fun and fitness! Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in several PD-friendly wellness classes, including:
· Rock Steady Boxing
· PWR! Moves
· Tai Chi for PD
· Moving Thru Dance
Each wellness class will last 20-30 minutes. The cost of registration is $25.
Whether you’re living with PD, know someone who is or just want to help, we encourage you to sign up today.
Can’t make it? You can support the cause with a flat donation. Friends and family of participants can also get involved by sponsoring a participant or committing to donate $1 for every minute they exercise at the event. Upon your registration, you will have a fundraising page you can share with others to raise money for this important cause!
All proceeds go to the Mary and Charles A. Parkhill Foundation and will then be distributed to individuals with PD to help cover the cost of participation in the wellness programs of their choice.
Remember: Exercise is medicine! And every person living with PD should be able to access wellness programs that keep them moving.
FIGHT BACK WITH FITNESS!
