Our Story
Las Doradas & NYA

ABOUT NYA

NYA has served children in Venice since 1906  and has been innovative in meeting their families' needs during the disruption of pandemic, from programing a virtual summer school for over 100 kids to supplying much needed food pick ups, NYA is very much still meeting the needs of the children and families in their community.

NYA's mission is to enable at-risk children and youth to achieve their personal best, by providing a comprehensive set of educational enhancement services, academic support, counseling, career planning, and cultural enrichment activities in a sustained, focused manner during their preschool through high school years.

Again this year, 100% of NYA’s high school seniors graduated on time – more than 48% higher than the on-time graduation rate at nearby Venice High School, and 100% of NYA’s most recent graduates are enrolled in college. This success is all the more valuable considering that all of NYA’s students are low-income and 96% will be among the first in their families to attend college. NYA’s personalized, comprehensive approach provides students with academic support, counseling, college and career planning, cultural and recreational enrichment activities, as well as leadership skills development activities.

ABOUT LAS DORADAS

Since 1962 Las Doradas has supported and educated at-risk youth through over $730,000 in funding. We began as a social group who wished to use their crafting talents to benefit others.

As the group is named after the female followers of Pancho Villa, a fiesta and bazaar were the early vehicle for gathering friends together and raising money. As we have throughout our history our Active and Patron members enlist spouses, kids and friends to throw fun and successful events.

Las Doradas partners with the Neighborhood Youth Association to educate and support disadvantaged  and deserving kids and their families. After school programs at the Las Doradas Learning Center in Venice serve kids from kindergarten through high school, and graduates are often the first in their families to attend college.
