I trained for a 5K as a personal challenge, but now will use it to help others. On 10/12/19 I will be in Hartford to support the mission of Fidelco.org that breeds, trains, and donates German Shephard guide dogs for the visually impaired or blind. These dogs give people back their independence and change their lives completely. Close your eyes and try to get around your house, go up and down steps, avoid furniture -- just for 10 minutes. Imagine getting on a subway in a city without being able to see the platform edge. Imagine crossing a street without seeing how cars, bicylcles, and people are criss-crossing all around you. With just a cane, visually impaired and blind people often find their world getting smaller and smaller. Guide dogs and the people (including many voluneers) who make it all possible give the gifts of independence, confidence, and security to people who struggle with something the rest of us too often take for granted. A touching Netfliks movie called Pick Of The Litter explains the process. Any donations, of whatever amount, are truly appreciated.
