Fenway High School's essential question this year is "Who Built America?" where students examine the roots of this country, from who lived here first, who came here and why, how did we grow as a country, how have we changed, and who can achieve the American Dream? At Fenway, we provide our students with the opportunity to explore their interests, “try-on” new ideas, and build relationships with members of their community, both within the school building, in greater Boston, and beyond. One of the highlights of the year is Project Week where students and faculty divide into small groups to “dig-deep” into a topic of interest. During Project Week, anywhere outside of our school building can be their “classroom”. This year, 15 students and 3 educators will go to Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. With the Re-Member organization we will work on projects to build things such as wheelchair ramps, decks, and bunk beds. As a group, we will witness the poverty of the Lakota people and learn about their resilience and strength of character.
