Meet Felix. Felix is pretty awesome. He's 20 months old and the youngest of my three kiddos.
He has kept us on our toes since before he was born. We had a prenatal diagnosis at 13 weeks. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldnt have been quite so scared. It's a life changing diagnosis - I am not trying to sugarcoat it...but the lows come paired with the highest highs. Life is busier but slower if that makes any sense. Some things have been cut out to make more time for family. More moments are savored, with all my kids. The whole family celebrates Felix's stages of development that were taken for granted with my other kiddos.
My life looks different than it did before Felix. Its a profound...and positive change.
So much so that I am now the Executive Director of the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota. I still cannot quite believe that my professional experience and personal passions have collided so perfectly to bring me here.
The Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota is a statewide nonprofit organization with the mission to empower individuals and their families, to create community, and to celebrate the abilities of people with Down syndrome. Our Annual STEP UP FOR DOWN SYNDROME walk is our largest awareness event and fundraiser. Over 5,000 people join us in person at Como Park every September to raise awareness, celebrate abilities, and create community.
The money raised through the personal campaigns of our AWESOME TEAM CAPTAINS & FAMILIES leading up to this event provide the funding to deliver our mission and programming throughout the year!
If you would like to give directly to the Association at any time during the year, visit us at www.dsamn.org/support-us/donate/
