Every year Northwest CASA holds a Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event in Evanston and so many of you aren't able to attend because its too far!

All jokes aside, it is a super important cause. Many people don’t realize the prevalence of sexual violence is in our communities, let alone the fact that you most likely have a friend or family member you care about that has been a victim of sexual violence at some point in their life.
1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys by the time they are 18 will be a victim of child sexual abuse.
1 in 5 women and 1 in 33 men are victims of sexual violence in their lifetime.
LGBTQIA+ communities are violated at a higher rate than cis-gendered folx
Black and indigenous people of color also face high rates of sexual violence, and moreover certain stereotypes of sexual expectations can play into the violence caused to a person due to what Hollywood has portrayed certain cultures and racial groups to act like in sexual situations.
The money raised goes right back to our services of advocacy, counseling, and education that is free to survivors and our communities.
Walk a mile so I can present to Kindergarteners -5th graders that their bodies belong to them and that they have choices over who they want to hug or not.
Walk a mile so I can teach middle schoolers empowerment, and about sexual harassment and dating violence and offer support to students who disclose being victims of relationship and domestic abuse
Walk a mile so I can teach consent in the classrooms and help students become empowered to say no and know their worth. Let me teach them that they do not have to consent just because they like someone and if they felt like they didn’t have a choice, that isn’t consenting.
Walk a mile so our survivors can continue to have 24/7 crisis hotline support no matter where they are
Walk a mile so we can continue to provide free clinical trauma-informed counseling services to survivors of all genders and ages who have been victimized.
How far will you walk? Can you walk a mile in their shoes?
A mile is easy, abuse it not. Do it for them
