MANA de San Diego is a Latina organization that strives to empower Latinas in education, leadership, advocacy and community involvement and it’s in times of crisis, as is this COVID-19 Pandemic, that we are here to step up and help our community and partners. FEEDING San Diego's HEALTHCARE HEROES is an effort where MANA can support not only the HEALTHCARE HEROES but also a way to help local restaurants stay in business. This is our way of giving back, and every dollar contributed will be used directly for this effort. Thank you for your donations and a reminder to stay safe and healthy.
Elena Perez, Interim Executive Director, MANA de San Diego
I am Melissa Nichols and I have worked in Health Care and the Restaurant industry my entire career. I am a New Orleans native that moved to San Diego after Hurricane Katrina. Our family lost our home and our businesses were damaged. I created a HEALTHCARE HERO campaign to honor New Orleans HEALTHCARE HEROES 15 years ago. Today our World’s HEALTHCARE HEROES are being drastically impacted by yet another unprecedented event, COVID-19.
I immediately wanted to honor our San Diego HEALTHCARE HEROES and at the same time help save small restaurants throughout the area. I am coordinating with 6 small restaurants, including one owned by my family in Pacific Beach, to feed HEALTHCARE HEROES across San Diego County. I know the ins and outs of Hospitals and I can coordinate deliveries for all departments. We will be starting with the Respiratory Care departments, who are caring for these patients around the clock. We will then branch out to the other intensive care units, emergency rooms and the support staff too. I am EXCITED to volunteer my time and partner with MANA de San Diego to make this happen!
