Feed Philly Heroes is a collaborative effort between College Together (legal name: Mentor for Philly), which has established partnerships with top local restaurants, and POHPS, a volunteer army of over 2,000 local medical students, to deliver full meals every day to frontline workers at Philadelphia's Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center. Those taking care of our nation's veterans deserve some help themselves. We could use your support. Join us and donate today.
This is Feed Philly Heroes, a collaborative effort between College Together and the Philadelphia Organization of Health Professions Students (POHPS) to feed our heroes on the medical frontline, many of whom lack access to energy-sustaining meals during grueling twelve and (yes) twenty-four hour shifts.
1. The Restaurants
We have commitments from five restaurant groups across the city. All of them are known for safe and quality cooking and agree to prepare meals at a single price point with health and nutrition in mind. They will work together in staggered shifts to serve and deliver meals every day.
2. The Frontline
We are focusing on the critical and overlooked Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Philadelphia, which of course, is dedicated to heroes of a different stripe who have served our country.
Meals will go to doctors, nurses, clerical staff, custodians, assistants, and caretakers at a multidue of VA hospital facilities, including its overdose prevention center and nursing homes.
We Need YOU!
To deliver 500 more meals over the next few weeks, Feed Philly Heroes is aiming to raise at least $3,000 more -- on top of our original goal of $3,000.
When thinking of the VA, we must remember that unwritten obligation we have chosen to uphold as a country: to tell all those who have taken care of us on the battlefield that we will now take care of them. That has remained true for generations for our veterans.
Now, let this creed endure for our heroes on a very different kind of battlefield.
Let’s feed Philly’s heroes — together.
