At Hawks Aloft, we house, feed, and bring expert care to more than 30 permanently injured, non-releasable birds of prey.
Our "Avian Ambassador" crew includes apex predators in New Mexico like Red-tailed Hawks, as well as some of the more petite species found in our state, like the Flammulated Owl. And naturally everything in between--Great Horned Owls, Prairie Falcons, American Kestrels, Mexican Spotted Owl, even an imprinted Turkey Vulture and one American Crow.
Our birds cost in the ballpark of $2,500 each month to feed. Largely, we generate these funds through education and outreach programs, where our educators share each bird's story, bringing to life environmental concepts like habitat fragmentation and the impact of pollution for thousands of New Mexicans each year.
With the devastating, far-reaching impacts of COVID-19, we are no longer able to connect with our community in-person, but as always we continue to feed the birds housed with us a choice diet that mimics what they eat in the wild and provide the highest quality medical care.
We know that this is a tough time for everyone, not just in New Mexico, but throughout the world. We hope that those who are able might consider donating a meal to even just one of our education birds--every dollar counts!
This year for #GivingTuesdayNow we hope to raise enough money to feed our birds for the next month, which also offers our small nonprofit a degree of financial security as we all navigate these uncertain times.
Each dollar donated on #GivingTuesdayNow may be matched--giving us the opportunity to throw even more of our energy behind Raptor Rescue, research, and other conservation efforts.
Thank you all for your consideration and support!
