To the question “Please, sir, may I have some more?” we say, “YES!”
Today, in this great country of wealth, there are children who go to bed hungry. If you saw a child who was hungry would you deny her a nutritious meal? We provide hot, nutritious meals every day at no cost to any child who comes through our door.
The Game Loft, Belfast, Maine, is a registered soup kitchen. Waldo County, Maine, like other areas of Maine is burdened by extreme rural poverty, ranging from 55-90% of all children. Five towns in this county are labeled a food desert by the federal USDA. Kids who are hungry do poorly in school and ultimately in life.
At the Game Loft everyone gets fed and there is enough. A full nutritious meal is served every afternoon followed by a snack around 4:30. On Fridays, when we are open till 8:30 pm we serve a dinner meal at 5:30 often prepared by community volunteers - our Foodie Friday program.
We know that a well-fed kid is a well behaved kid.
The Game Loft has over 260 registered enrolled youth and many more drop-ins. Everyone gets fed.
So far this season, from September through February we have served 1625 meals, 426 Friday meals and 2304 snacks.
Your support will help us keep this program going and also help us provide nutrition and cooking programs for our young people this summer.
